Amy Winehouse’s dead body was tragically found in her Camden home on the afternoon of Saturday July 23rd. The U.K. singer was just 27 years old. Reports have suggested that Amy was on a 36 hour drink and drug binge, ultimately leading to her tragic death.
Amy cancelled her latest European tour last month due to struggling with her long term drug addiction and alcoholism. A close friend of the highly talented 27 year old has come forward saying that she always thought Amy would become a member of the 27 Club, whose members comprise of famous musicians including Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain, also dying at the age of 27.
Amy wanted to leave a legacy, and despite only releasing two albums, her second album, Back to Black, was a huge success, winning her 5 Grammy awards. Despite her huge musical talent and fame, her personal life seemed to attract just as much interest as her career, constantly featured in tabloids looking worse for wear due to her public drug habits. The singer made several attempts to get clean, repeatedly checking herself into rehabilitation facilities. Her last stint in rehab reportedly took place in May of 2011. In a previous interview with Amy, she was asked if she had any unfulfilled ambitions and replied: ‘If I died tomorrow I’d be a happy girl.’
Upon finding Amy’s body, the Metropolitan police issued a statement insisting that they were treating Amy’s death as ‘unexplained’ and no drugs or suicide note are thought to have been found in her house. They are now awaiting following test results, due to her autopsy not establishing the cause of death.
